Rodrigo Porras Garulo stars as Mark in the opening production of 2022 Glyndebourne Festival THE WRECKERS by Ethel Smyth under the baton of Robin Ticciati with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Highlights of his 2021/22 Season include Rodolfo in LA BOHÈME at Landestheater Linz with Marcus Poschner conducting the Bruckner Orchestra Linz and directed by Georg Schmiedleitner, as well as his debut as DON CARLO in the new production by Uwe Eric Laufenberg at the Hessian State Theater Wiesbaden. Further Mr. Porras Garulo will return as Don José in CARMEN to the State Opera Hanover, where he was previously acclaimed as Cavaradossi in TOSCA and Tristan in LE VIN HERBÉ. On the concert stage he will sing the Tenor Solo in Verdi‘s REQUIEM at Brucknerhaus Linz.
Rodrigo Porras Garulo was nominated as Singer Of The Year by music critic Michael Stallknecht (Süddeutsche Zeitung, Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Opernwelt) in Opernwelt Magazine due to his interpretation of Calaf in TURANDOT at State Theater Karlsruhe. In 2019 he had the honour to give his debut at Teatro Alla Scala as the Duke in RIGOLETTO, co-starring the legendary Leo Nucci. The Season 2020/21 included engagements that were affected by the pandemic at the Royal Danish Opera Copenhagen as Pinkerton in MADAMA BUTTERFLY under the baton of Paolo Carignani and as Radamès in AIDA at State Theater Karlsruhe, as well as his return to State Opera Prague as Cavaradossi and as the Duke to Gärtnerplatz Theater.
In the past Mr. Porras Garulo has appeared in the main roles of his repertoire at the Hessian State Theater Wiesbaden, Festival Ljubljana, Opera Leipzig, Opera Wuppertal, Croatian National Theater Zagreb, State Opera Astana, Opéra de Tours, Gärtnerplatz Theater, State Theater Schwerin, Biel-Solothurn Theater, Schwerin Palace Festival and Beethoven Hall Stuttgart. He sung under the baton of some of the world’s leading conductors, including Charles Dutoit, Daniel Oren, Marco Armiliato, Dan Ettinger, Julia Jones, Gustav Kuhn, Ivan Ciampa, Ainars Rubikis, Robert Trevino, Alan Buribayev, Konstantin Trinks, Stephan Zilias, Justin Brown, Daniele Squeo, Johannes Willig, Kevin Edusei, Peter Halász and Vincenzo Milletarì.
Born in Mexico City, Rodrigo Porras Garulo studied voice at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, with KS Helene Schneiderman, and attended private lessons with professor Antonio Carangelo. He completed his studies with Barbara Bonney, Josef Protschka, Markus Eiche, Enza Ferrari, Jean-Pierre Fabre, Eike Grams, Beatrice Benzi and Maris Skuja. From 2010 to 2015 he was a company member of the South Thuringen State Opera and from 2017 to 2020 of the State Theater Karlsruhe with assignments such as the main part in LES CONTES D’HOFFMANN, Max in DER FREISCHÜTZ, Don José in CARMEN, Cavaradossi in TOSCA, Maurizio in ADRIANA LECOUVREUR, Gabriele Adorno in Verdi‘s SIMON BOCCANEGRA, et al. Mr. Porras Garulo is a winner of the International Antonín Dvořák Singing Competition and scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association.
