Rodrigo Porras Garulo debuts in the Season 2020/21 at the Royal Danish Opera Copenhagen under the baton of Paolo Carignani as Pinkerton in MADAMA BUTTERFLY. He is currently a member of the ensemble at the State Opera Hanover, where he can be seen as Don José in the new CARMEN production by Barbora Horáková Joly and where he was previously acclaimed as Cavaradossi in TOSCA and Tristan in LE VIN HERBÉ. Different assignments of the current season include his debut as Radamès in AIDA at State Theater Karlsruhe and his return as Cavaradossi in TOSCA and as Pinkerton in MADAMA BUTTERFLY to the State Opera Prague and to the Latvian National Opera.

In the Season 2019/20 Mr. Porras Garulo debuted at Teatro Alla Scala as Duca in RIGOLETTO co-starring with Leo Nucci. Other highlights included his role debut as Calaf in TURANDOT and Max in DER FREISCHÜTZ at the State Theater Karlsruhe, his house debut as Cavaradossi at State Theater Wiesbaden and the Opening Concert of the Ljubljana Festival with Beethoven‘s 9th SYMPHONY under the baton of Charles Dutoit.

In the past Mr. Porras Garulo has appeared in the main roles of his repertoire at the Opera Leipzig, Opera Wuppertal, State Opera Astana, Opéra de Tours, Gärtnerplatz Theater, State Theater Schwerin, Biel-Solothurn Theater, Schwerin Palace Festival and Beethoven Hall Stuttgart, among others, under the baton from conductors such as Marco Armiliato, Daniel Oren, Dan Ettinger, Julia Jones, Gustav Kuhn, Ivan Ciampa, Ainars Rubikis, Robert Trevino, Alan Buribayev, Konstantin Trinks, Stephan Zilias, Justin Brown, Daniele Squeo, Johannes Willig, Kevin Edusei, Peter Halász and Vincenzo Milletarì.

Born in Mexico City, Rodrigo Porras Garulo studied voice at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, with KS Helene Schneiderman and attended private lessons with professor Antonio Carangelo. He completed his studies with Barbara Bonney, Josef Protschka, Markus Eiche, Enza Ferrari, Jean-Pierre Fabre, Eike Grams, Beatrice Benzi and Maris Skuja. From 2010 to 2015 he was a company member of the South Thuringen State Opera and from 2017 to 2020 of the State Theater Karlsruhe with assignments such as the main part in LES CONTES D’HOFFMANN, Don José in CARMEN, Cavaradossi in TOSCA, Maurizio in ADRIANA LECOUVREUR, Gabriele Adorno in Verdi‘s SIMON BOCCANEGRA, et al. Rodrigo Porras Garulo is a winner of the International Antonín Dvořák Singing Competition and scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association.
